MaunaWika: A Web and Mobile E-learning Application for Filipino Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension

The Philippine Education System has struggled to instruct primary students in reading lessons. The problem with their reading skills had been particularly alarming, as it is a crucial foundation for learning and understanding the subjects catered in school. The study aims to develop a mobile application that will serve as a tool for the children to improve their reading comprehension skills and expand their vocabulary in the Filipino language. For the web counterpart of the app, the project aims to develop a module wherein the teachers can monitor their student's progress and manage the learning paths. The study used FURPS (Functionality, Usability, Reliability, Performance and Supportability) model to assess the system development progress. Furthermore, the actual development used of the proposed system will conform to the Agile Methodology. The findings of the study shows that the developers effectively developed a mobile application learning and assessment module that serves as a tool for the students in improving their reading comprehension skills and expanding their vocabulary in the Filipino language. The developers also effectively developed a web application admin support module wherein the teachers can monitor their student's progress and manage their learning path. MaunaWika can help Philippine Education System to improve teaching Filipino reading skills in primary education.
