A Technical Approach to Motorcycle Platoon Coordination via Motorcycle-to-Motorcycle Communications

The popularity of motorcycle group riding has been on the rise, but safety remains a paramount concern. To address this issue, a riding formation technique known as platooning has emerged, which involves a group of riders aligning themselves to bolster their safety. This study introduces an information-providing device tailored for riders. The device has several key features, including the ability to assign group roles, track users, and identify destination locations. Furthermore, the application incorporates a notification system designed to alert a user who has fallen behind the group. The main objective of this application is to elevate the overall riding experience by promoting and maintaining group formation, thereby enhancing communication among motorcycle enthusiasts as they ride together and potentially increasing their safety to substantially reduce the occurrence of accidents, injuries, and casualties within the riding community. The study's findings affirm the performance and functionality of the proposed motorcycle communication application, with real-time trials garnering positive feedback from participants who expressed satisfaction with its usability. It presents a compelling solution to enhance safety, efficiency, and enjoyment for riders, ultimately contributing to a more secure and enjoyable riding experience.
