Design of a 500W Conduction Cooled Interleaved Two-FET Forward Converter With Housekeeping

This study presents a design of a Digital Signal Processor (DSP)-controlled 12V, 500W interleaved two-FET forward converter with integrated housekeeping protocols, a thermal management system, and an auxiliary supply. The auxiliary supply is a flyback converter that delivers power to the ASIC drivers, DSP, and sensing circuits. The functionality of the housekeeping protocols was tested, and all protection asserted/de-asserted as expected. Thermal management is achieved through overtemperature protection, a temperature monitoring system and strategically placed temperature sensing to monitor hot components. The proposed ITTF converter has a 10% output voltage regulation, and the whole system qualifies for 80+ platinum rating.
