Towards Adaptive Personality-based Learning System: A Case Study of Mapua University in Designing Computing Course e-Materials

Different personalities entail different learning aspects of a student. With the flexibility provided by an online learning environment, e-learning systems can be adaptive to the personality type of learners and, subsequently, their learning style. Using the sixteen personalities of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) adapted by the NERIS model, the personality types were identified and discussed for Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science (CS) students of Mapua University. The personality types identified were attributed to the learning styles in the Felder-Silverman Index of Learning Styles (ILS). This allowed for discussing and comparing students' personality traits, learning preferences, learning characteristics, and teaching approaches in both programs. Results were supported through related literature, and recommendations were given based on the results. The findings have implications and potential benefits for future studies looking into adaptive e-learning systems.
