Reinforcing Sustainable Exchange for Equipment Trading: The Emergence of National University Gear and Tech Trading (NU GTRADE) Application

Undergraduate research is an invaluable and constructive practice within higher education, yielding numerous positive outcomes [1]. It can be through various models, such as apprenticeship-based research or course-based research experiences [2]. However, it is crucial to recognize that some research endeavors, especially those in technology-focused fields like engineering, heavily rely on specialized equipment. As a result, researchers frequently invest significant time and financial resources in acquiring this equipment. However, once their research concluded, they might no longer require the equipment, leading to wasteful practices within our society. A persistent problem arises as consecutive students undertake similar research projects, burdened by the need to procure costly and possibly underutilized equipment. This cycle of wastage and unnecessary expenditure can hinder the efficient advancement of research and academic pursuits. In line with this, the National University will develop the National University Gear and Tech Trading (NU GTRADE) Application. The NU GTRADE is an innovative application designed to facilitate the buying, selling, and trading of equipment in research, thesis, or capstone projects. This platform will empower students to responsibly dispose of their specialized equipment by connecting with others within the academic community who may benefit from its use. By doing so, the NU GTRADE effectively mitigates wastage and encourages a conscientious approach to equipment consumption among students. Through this, the National University will demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, cost-consciousness, and resource optimization within its academic ecosystem. By fostering a culture of equipment sharing and reuse, the university can contribute to its environmental footprint and supports responsible research within higher education. Subsequently, with this innovative application, the university will pave the way for a more environmentally conscious and cost-effective approach to equipment consumption among students, ultimately advancing the pursuit of knowledge and research excellence.
