Enlarging Actuation Capacities of Controls under DoS Attacks improves Performances?

Cyber-physical configurations profoundly affect the performance of control systems. The trade-off has to be made between the performances and capital investments on the configurations. Empirically, the performance can be improved by increasing the capital investments on physical resources, such as enlarging the control actuation capacities. Is this experience still valid under DoS attacks? We try to answer this question by using low-high gain control performance as an example under zeroing, zero-order-hold, and data-compensation based actuation. The results indicate that enlarging actuation capacities of low-high gain controls does not always improve performance, and the optimal actuation capacity may exist for attacking intensity. Moreover, the results also suggest that conservative actuation capacity should be chosen under intensive DoS attacks to prevent further degradation of control performance.
