A Defect Detection Method of Differential Pulse Eddy Current for Transmission Lines

The secure and stable operation of transmission lines is crucial in achieving the reliable power supply objectives for the electric power system. Currently, there is a lack of highly accurate and interference-resistant methods for detecting defects in transmission lines. This study presents a new model for a pulse electromagnetic eddy current detection probe that could accurately detect and quantify defects in aluminium conductor steel-reinforced(ACSR) based on the differential signal. Firstly, theory of the probe is analyzed based on the magnetic field characteristics. Secondly, a finite element model of the transmission line is developed using COMSOL software, allowing for the simulation of various types of defects. Finally, by utilizing symmetrical detection coils, differential signals are obtained for defects of different types and severities, enabling defect quantification and confirming the feasibility and practicality of the proposed method. Our work provides a workable idea for practical field reuse and miniaturized sensor design.
