Design of an AI-driven office building electricity balancing platform

Europe’s electricity demand is expected to increase by more than 20% by 2050 and it has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80%, creating a green economy. In the second half of 2021, the EU experienced a significant increase in electricity prices, reaching its peak in the summer of 2022. This has motivated organizations to look for solutions that maximize the use of renewable energy resources and minimize grid consumption during peak price periods. The aim of this research is to design architecture for edge-cloud based power resource management and balancing platform for office buildings, which would maximize the use of renewable resources, minimize electricity costs while ensuring the desired level of user comfort. The platform will adjust the electricity consumption according to the output of the solar panel and the price of the electricity; batteries will be used to further reduce grid consumption during peak hours.
