Optimal Economic Dispatching Approach of Electrolyzers to Participate in Power Regulation Service Based on Two-stage Stochastic Programming

To effectively adopt the intermittency and volatility of renewable energy and enhance power system flexibility, leveraging the active engagement of diverse market players within the power system for flexible power regulation is essential. The surge in demand for green hydrogen has led to substantial growth in electrolytic hydrogen production, notably in electrolyzer facilities like ALK and PEM, known for their high power flexibility. This paper proposes an optimal economic dispatch strategy utilizing a two-stage stochastic programming model for electrolyzer involvement in frequency regulation ancillary services. Applied case results demonstrate that employing this approach to coordinate various electrolyzer types in power regulation services not only capitalizes on their diverse advantages but also optimizes economic benefits.
