A Magnetic Flux-Modulated Permanent Magnet Machine for Shaftless Pump-Jet Propulsor

This paper proposes a new magnetic flux-modulated permanent magnet (PM) machine (FPMM) for the shaftless pump-jet propulsor of the full electric ship system. The proposed FPMM embeds a reverse coaxial magnetic gear (CMG) into the interior of a high-speed PM machine to improve the torque density of the propulsion machine. A FPMM and a low-speed PM machine with the same technical parameters are designed. The corresponding torque performance, machine volume and mass are effectively evaluated using the finite-element method.
