Accelerated EMC Site Validation Testing From 30 MHz to 200 MHz With a Reduced Number of Measurement Heights Using the Matrix Pencil Method

EMC test sites undergo compliance testing according to standards such as CISPR 16-1-4 or ANSI C63.4. In the frequency range of 30MHz to 1 GHz, measurements involve acquiring a series of s 21 responses between a fixed-height transmit antenna and o height-scanning antenna (ranging from 1 m to 4 m) over a conductive ground plane. To achieve accurate site validation results, a step size of 5 cm or smaller for the height-scanning antenna is necessary. Performing the required suite of site attenuation measurements, covering two polarizations, different transmit antenna heights, and various positions within a quiet zone, is time-consuming. In this study, we propose employing a larger height increment, such as 10 cm or 15 cm, for collecting height-scanning data. The coarsely measured data is then fitted to a vector function using the Matrix Pencil (MP) method. The results demonstrate that highly comparable outcomes can be achieved with significantly fewer measurement heights, resulting in a substantial reduction in test time without compromising the accuracy and integrity of the measurements.
