Communication and Control for Secure Autonomous Connected Vehicles in V2X Architecture – A Review

With the recent advances in automotive mobility, Autonomous Connected Vehicles (ACVs) in a platoon are becoming the wave of the future for Intelligent Mobility Systems (IMS). Autonomous Connected vehicles are driverless vehicles that are connected in the Vehicle to Everything (V2X) network infrastructure. Adopting Autonomous Vehicles in a platoon relies on wireless communication (IoT) and utilizing vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). However, these Autonomous Vehicles are prone to security vulnerabilities, cyberattacks and road safety. Vehicular platooning as they rely on wireless communication networks leads to dangerous conditions for driving safety. The development of Autonomous Connected Vehicles (ACVs) has increased the need for secure and efficient communication and control mechanisms in Vehicular-to-Everything (V2X) architecture. This paper comprehensively reviews the recent research on communication and control mechanisms for secure ACVs in a platoon. The review highlights the challenges and opportunities in ACVs’ V2X communication and control mechanisms.
