DGS Loaded 1x4 Patch Antenna Array for S-Band Applications

This paper proposes a 1x4 array of rectangular microstrip patch antenna using corporate feeding network, for s-band applications. Microstrip patch antenna has 5 ring slots, fabricated on the FR-4(lossy) with relative permittivity 4.4 and thickness of 1.6mm. The structure is loaded with DGS (ring shaped slots on ground). The array has resonating frequency 2.4GHz. The array has return loss of -30.107dB at frequency 2.388GHz. The proposed antenna works in frequency 2.34GHz to 2.43GHz. The 1x4 array has increased gain and directivity. The 1x4array obtains a gain of 7 dBi, while the gain of single patch antenna is 3.5dBi and directivity of 14.97 dB, while the directivity of single patch is 8.1 dB. Thus, the designed antenna is suitable for S-band applications.
