A Universal Interference-Simulator for Digitally Modulated Communication Standards

This contribution describes the development of a universal simulation tool for assessing electromagnetic interferences of nowadays broadband digitally modulated communication standards. It discusses the applicability of current emission test procedures with resolution bandwidths much higher than the typical subcarrier spacing of digital standards, where unlike for analogue modulated signals the information is distributed in a broadband spectrum. The simulation comprises a generalized structure to be applicable to all kind of digitally modulated standards, even future ones. First simulation results are presented for the nowadays mobile communication standards. A major advantage of the presented simulation tool is, that it relates the properties of interferences signals, i.e., bandwidth and amplitude, to an error probability of individual standard’s functions, for example a decrease in data rate. This allows a much more sophisticated assessment of interferers, than just limit values of interferers, which are exceeded or not, associated with a system to operate or not.
