Design and Analysis of EMP Simulator Using Different Simulation Configurations

This paper aims to compare an experimental and a simulated design of an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) generator. It focuses on numerical simulations carried out through Computer Simulation Technology (CST) studio compared to an experiment. The aim is to analyze the impact of different configurations in the simulated environment that satisfy the pulse criteria and simulation complexity. Different types of boundaries are considered to observe the effects on the simulated pulse waveforms. Since the numerical simulation utilizes a perfect double exponential waveform for an ideal scenario (reference), a correction factor is later introduced based on the measured Electric field (E-field). The correction factor is calculated using the transfer functions from simulations to get a corrected E-field at the center of the test volume. Other E-field sensors are used to analyze the accuracy of the corrected simulation.
