Uncorrelated Random Errors and Correlated Periodic Errors in Near-Field Focused Antenna Arrays for Biomedical Applications

The effects of the so-called uncorrelated random errors in near-field focused arrays have recently been studied, showing that such errors can distort the field in a relatively strong manner. In this work, periodic correlated errors due to amplitude and phase quantization are also taken into consideration. It is shown that even such errors can cause a distortion of the generated electromagnetic field. As they are more controllable than the random errors, they should be minimized to have a reliable design of near-field focused radiation systems, especially for applications where safety is very important such as the biomedical ones.
