Snow Attenuation Measurement for Short-Range mmWave Fixed Link

This paper focuses on assessing snowfall attenuation through the collection and analysis of snowfall data. A PWS100 Weather Sensor station was installed on the roof of the library at Durham University to record precipitation data. A mm-Wave channel sounder was employed, operating at two frequencies (25.84 GHz and 77.54 GHz), to measure attenuation over a 36 m direct link and a 200 m link equipped with a commercial radio frequency (RF) head continuously transmitting at 77.125 GHz (E band). The study was conducted between December 31, 2020, and January 7, 2021, with the primary aim of investigating and obtaining the most accurate snowfall attenuation at K and E bands with co-polarisation and cross-polarisation links.
