Algorithm for Finding the Optimal Optical Power in a Fiber Optic Power Transmission System

A Power-over-Fiber (PoF) system with optimal optical power parameters is important in applications where electromagnetic immunity, galvanic isolation, minimum power consumption and other characteristics that optical fiber power technology provides are required simultaneously. For example: powering precision sensors, monitoring systems in explosion and fire hazardous industrial facilities, solar and wind power generation, electric vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles and others. Maintaining the optimal optical power maximizes the efficiency of the PoF system by varying the laser diode power, taking into account the characteristics of dynamically changing load in real time. The publication presents a new algorithm for finding the optimal optical power for optimized performance of an energy transmission via optical fiber based PoF technology. A digital model of a power photovoltaic converter (PPVC) made in MATLAB Simulink modeling environment was used to conduct an experiment confirming the correctness of the developed algorithm. Also, the paper presents the results of the experiment: a graph of the dependence of the efficiency factor (EF) of PoF components on the optical power; a graph of the dependence of the efficiency of the PoF system on the resistance of the real object (power photovoltaic converter) and the model of the PPVC. The results of the work prove the correctness of the proposed algorithm at changing load in MATLAB Simulink.
