Design of the Glucose Metabolism Simulator for Personalized Automated Insulin Therapy Systems Development

Abstract-The paper proposes the principle of personalized automated insulin therapy system development based on building the glucose metabolism simulator in the case of type 1 diabetes mellitus. The work is dedicated to modeling the human metabolic system in the case of diabetes mellitus. The existing simulator implementations have been analyzed. New functionality has been proposed for simulator design, including fundamentally new operation modes. The substantiation for the innovations is provided and their purposes are described. A new mathematical model of blood glucose metabolism that encompasses the highest number of physiological situations in the body has been designed. In particular, the mathematical description principle of one of the main processes of glucose flow into the blood, previously not presented in explicit form, is proposed. The user interface design concept has been proposed. The proposed concept makes the interaction between the user and the computational algorithms more comfortable. In addition, the concept considers the simulator modes’ specifics of operation, as well as the specified input and output parameters. A set of these factors has a positive influence on the process of the automated insulin therapy system development.
