SAPF-Based AC Chopper Converter with Enhanced Input and Load Adaptability

AC chopper converter has drawn lots of attention because of high conversion efficiency and economical excellency. However, due to lack of adaptability for input distortion, nonlinear load and output filter perturbation, the output quality faces severe risk in practical. Fortunately, series active power filter (SAPF) offers a solution because of its power quality improvement capability for user side. In this paper, DC-capacitor-based SAPF is chosen and bandpass filter is adopted for harmonic detection. A dual-loop control is used to maintain its input DC voltage and track the output reference. Rolling-RMS (root mean square)-based control is designed for AC chopper converter as well as AC-DC-AC converter for comparison. Simulation verification indicates that AC chopper converter with SAPF possesses obvious advantage when facing nonlinear load, input harmonic, input DC component and output filter perturbation. In economical analysis, it is reasonable to apply SAPF to AC chopper converter.
