Effects of Wind Load on the Galloping Characteristics of 10 kV Overhead Insulated Conductors

In this paper, based on the method of finite element simulation, the analytical model of 10kV single-file icing overhead insulated conductor is established in ANSYS. The aerodynamic and mechanical characteristics of the overhead line under different wind speeds are analyzed. The results show that, in a certain range of wind speed, the lift and resistance of the overhead line increase exponentially with the wind speed, but its aerodynamic coefficient does not change much. Moreover, the galloping amplitude of the overhead line grows slowly after reaching a certain wind speed and reaches the maximum amplitude corresponding to a wind speed of 5 m/s. However, the galloping frequency shows a tendency of increasing all the time with the increase of wind speed. The results could provide references for the monitor and prevention of the galloping of overhead transmission lines.
