Pioneering Field Test and Performance Analysis of Photovoltaic Self-Synchronous Voltage Source

Photovoltaic self-synchronizing voltage source (PV-SVS) is a promising grid-forming control strategy. By utilizing the reserved power capacity, the energy-storage-free PV-SVS can actively contribute both active and reactive power to the grid. Moreover, under specific conditions, it can work independently, providing stable voltage and frequency to critical loads. This paper introduces a control strategy of the energy-storage-free PV-SVS. Leveraging the national wind and solar energy storage demonstration base, a demonstration operation of the PV-SVS was conducted. Pioneering experiments included active grid support, grid mode to island mode switching, independent black start, and multi-unit parallel grid connection. The results demonstrate that compared to traditional PQ-source photovoltaic inverters, PV-SVS exhibits significant advantages in enhancing renewable energy grid-friendliness and voltage/frequency independent support capability. It provides a viable technical solution for large-scale renewable energy integration, especially in scenarios without conventional power source support.
