Discussion on Influencing Factors of Maximum Operating Temperature of Environment-Friendly Polypropylene Insulated Medium Voltage Cable

When the environment-friendly polypropylene material is used in power cable insulation, there is no need for cross-linking and degassing during the production. Because of its simple process, low energy consumption and excellent mechanical & electrical properties, it has attracted widespread attention both in academia and industry. Compared with traditional XLPE insulated power cables, polypropylene insulated power cables have a higher melting point, so whether they can be applied to higher conductor temperatures than 90°C has become a key issue in cable design and development. In this paper, the deformation resistance, insulation oxidation resistance and accessory matching performance of polypropylene cable material are the main research directions, and the challenge of polypropylene insulated medium voltage cable at higher operating temperature (above 105°C) is analyzed. The results show that polypropylene insulated cable is prone to structural deformation, accelerated aging of materials and fitting of accessories when running at higher temperatures. The design and operation method of cable structure with low redundancy is proposed, which can provide a basis for the engineering application of polypropylene insulated cable.
