Structural Optimization Research Status of Metal Particle Traps in High Voltage AC GIL

Metal particles affect the surface insulation of gas insulated transmission line (GIL) post insulators, which can be effectively suppressed by placing particle traps. The effectiveness of the particle trap depends mostly on its structural parameters and placement. This paper reviews the representative researches of last five years on the particle traps. Firstly, structural parameters of typical particle traps in AC GIL are summarized and the effects of different structural parameters such as slot width and slot thickness on the capture capacity of particle traps are analyzed. Furthermore, common strategies for particle traps placements in AC GIL are summarized and the particle-capturing performance of different trap placement is analyzed. Finally, the shortcomings of the existing studies on the structural parameters and placements of particle traps are summarized and the future research directions are pointed out. This paper can provide a reference for the design and optimization of particle traps in AC GIL.
