Evaluaton on Configuration and Economic Performances of Large-Scale Wind Power to Ammonia System with Different Installation Locations and Operation Strategies

The green ammonia system powered with wind energy generators not only improves the utilization of installed wind power systems, but also reduces ammonia plant carbon emissions. However, due to the fluctuation of renewable energy in wind turbine (WT) generation systems, the operating points of the wind power to ammonia (WPtA) system fluctuate in a wide range, which greatly reduces the overall operation efficiency and reliability of the system. To this end, this paper proposes a capacity optimization configuration model of WPtA system for GW-scale. By the proposed model, the minimum unit ammonia cost is adopted as the objective function considering the operation constraints and strategies of different system configuration and different installation sites to optimize the configurations of main components such as the capacity of electrolysis hydrogen production system, chemical energy storage system, hydrogen storage system and synthetic ammonia system. Taking the GW-scale WPtA system as an example, the impact of five different installation sites on the optimal configuration and economic performances of the system is discussed and compared with different strategies of the system configuration and operation.
