Multi-Swing Transient Stability Analysis of SGs/SynCons Near Wind Farms

This paper reveals the multi-swing transient instability mechanism of synchronous generators (SGs) or condensers (SynCons) impacted by nearby wind farm (WF) dynamics. Firstly, the diverse influence of wind farm dynamics on SGs/SynCons' transient stability across different swing stages is analyzed based on an energy function. Then, a voltage vector diagram is established to illustrate that increased rotor angle of SGs/SynCons can cause voltage drops at the grid-connection point, which may repeatedly trigger Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) control of WFs post-fault. Under such cases, periodic oscillations or instability may occur if the transient energy within a cycle doesn't reduce considering the combined damping effects of renewable energy and inherent system damping. Finally, simulations validate the existence of the multi-swing transient instability of SGs/SynCons.
