Research on MTPA Control of IPMSM for Electric Vehicle

Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors are frequently utilized in electric vehicles due to their superior qualities, such as high-power density, uncomplicated structure, and rapid torque response. The maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control approach is commonly employed in the low-speed range to reduce stator current and copper losses. This paper presents a novel approach based on the perturbation and observation (P&O) method to achieve MTPA control of electric motors. Unlike traditional methods, the proposed approach does not require measuring motor parameters and is less susceptible to changes in these parameters. It also utilizes a variable step size search algorithm to determine the optimal current angle efficiently. Simulation experiments were carried out to assess the efficacy of the proposed method, and the results demonstrate that it exhibits faster convergence, lower stator current, and better performance compared to traditional analytical methods and disturbance observation methods.
