A Fuzzy Inference Taguchi Method for Multiobjective Design Optimization of Wide Speed Range High Power Density Axial Motor

The Taguchi method is an efficient method for motor design optimization. Unfortunately, the conventional Taguchi optimization is hard to obtain a complete set of nondominated solutions due to the restriction of the number of objectives. To alleviate the problem, this paper describes a fuzzy inference Taguchi method, which introduces the fuzzy inference system to translate the multiple optimization target to a single target on the basis of orthogonal design of experiments established by the Taguchi method for obtaining the complete set of nondominated solutions. The proposed approach is applied to the design optimization of the wide speed range high power density axial motor. After the optimal selection analysis, the best combination of the motor structure parameters is obtained. By comparing the optimization result of the proposed method with that of the conventional Taguchi method, the superiority and validity of the proposed method are certified.
