Cirata floating photovoltaic solar plant 192 MWp: A review of the biggest floating solar PV in Indonesia

The Cirata floating photovoltaic (FPV) project is the biggest FPV in the region. It uses a floating design combined with a hydropower plant, a solution to the problem of limited land and the intermittent nature of solar. This paper analyses the project’s design, operation and maintenance strategies, integration to the grid, and environmental aspects. The project’s impact on the stakeholders was also discussed, including supporting government renewable targets, reducing electricity production costs, stimulating domestic renewable industry, job opportunities for locals, and investor profitability. This examination reveals the project’s substantial contribution to enhancing the energy mix and grid stability in the West Java region, demonstrating the feasibility of incorporating large-scale solar projects into existing power infrastructure.
