A Sliding mode MPPT for Photovoltaic applications: case of storage systems

Renewable energy systems have become a crucial pillar in meeting global energy needs. Specifically, photovoltaic (PV) technology represents an eco-friendly solution with various advantages in terms of simplicity and efficiency. Its applications extend beyond just injecting alternative current into the grid utility; it also includes providing green electricity for standalone PV systems. In this paper, modeling and optimization are proposed for a PV system with a battery as a load. The aim of this study is to utilize the sliding mode theory to develop an efficient MPPT controller. Thus, mathematical modeling of the chosen PV topology is conducted. Subsequently, the overall PV system, along with a sliding mode MPPT, is implemented and simulated under fast climate fluctuations. The results demonstrate the high accuracy of the proposed MPPT, with an efficiency up to 99%, and the errors very low compared to theoretical results. This difference does not exceed 1.27%, which indicates that the proposed controller could be a key solution for Photovoltaic systems with storage devices.
