Efficiency Analysis of a Powertrain with Battery Direct Inverter

In this investigation, a silicon-based Battery Direct Inverter is analyzed. Therefore, two modes of voltage modulation are considered and compared to a silicon carbide based B6 inverter. Results of simulations with a harmonic sensitive motor model are used for the comparison. At various load situations, powertrain efficiency, composed of inverter and motor efficiency, is evaluated. For each operating point the inverter switching frequency resulting in highest powertrain efficiency is considered. The differences in efficiency are explained considering the influence of voltage harmonics.
