Distributed Secondary Control for DC Microgrid with Reduced Communication Variables

The number of communicated variables is a significant factor for successfully implementing distributed control strategies for the DC microgrid(DCMG). Reducing the number of communication variables can reduce the communication channel’s bandwidth requirement and cyber-attack risks. This paper presents a distributed control for the DCMG, which only utilizes output current information exchanges while successfully achieving the distributed control objectives. Moreover, using proportional and integral control in the distributed control strategy can reduce the dynamic deviation generated in output currents due to stealth attacks. The performance of the proposed distributed control for the DCMG is validated in MATLAB/Simulink for different load disturbances and attack scenarios. Finally, the proposed method is experimentally validated on hardware setup, and the results are presented.
