Modeling, Analysis and Optimization of Energy Management in An Islanded Microgrid

Modeling plays a crucial role in optimizing and managing energy within electrical power systems. It not only ensures the secure operation of the system but also offers the potential for cost minimization. With this motivation, this paper is dedicated to the modeling and analysis of a microgrid operating in island mode, which encompasses various types of distributed energy units, including renewables and conventional sources. Within this system, the demand side is tailored in accordance with varying loads, while the supply side is governed by the operations of generation sources. Hourly profiles of each generator and load are meticulously considered, thereby incorporating the yearly electricity generation and consumption of the entire system over 8760 hours into the model. The quasi-dynamic analysis tool of the DIgSILENT Power Factory program is employed to scrutinize sample scenarios within the system. The results demonstrate that the microgrid adeptly maintains its stability under critical scenarios through the execution of developed control algorithms, such as load shedding and adjustments to the generation levels of optimal sources.
