Development of a Wood Accounting System Based on Image Processing Methods

It's crucial to emphasize the importance of efficient forest resource accounting systems due to their vital ecological, economic, and social functions. Currently, there is no single automated method for forest resource accounting. This article explores the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and digital image processing to accurately measure the volume of timber, both in log form and as stacks of roundwood. The users of this methodology are forestry enterprises as well as government agencies for the purposes of regulatory control. The developed methodology will provide timely and accurate information about the volume and quality of timber throughout the harvesting and processing chain. This, in turn, will reduce the costs of timber volume assessment and make the process of monitoring their movement more independent and transparent.
