Secured Communication System Design using Software Defined Radio Device (USRP-2901) for Transmission and Reception of Encrypted Data

With the growing demand for digitalisation, multimedia data such as text, image, audio and video transmission through wireless networks have gained prominence. Image transmission done through social media is prone to attacks. Secure transmission through social media can be done by attaining confidentiality. Confidentiality protects the disclosure of information, which can be achieved by encrypting the image. This paper proposes a new method involving Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) codon as the key and DNA encryption. The image cipher is transmitted and received using the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP-290l) by interfacing it with the computer using MATLAB. The encryption methodology undergoes a two-step process, viz. pixel scrambling and diffusion. Pixel scrambling involves block processing using Chaotic maps and Integer Wavelet Transform (IWT). The scrambled image is then encrypted using the DNA rule, and DNA operators use the key generated by a chaotic map using the 1st methodology. At the same time, it is encrypted using the DNA rules and DNA operators using the key generated using RNA codon, in the case of RNA-based encryption methodology. The novelty in RNA key-based DNA encryption is that the key selection entirely depends on the RNA codon, which helps improvise the key space. The analysis shows that the RNA key-based encryption methodology provides higher robustness than the DNA encryption methodology without an RNA key. The image transmission and reception using USRP-290l and MATLAB are successful.
