Mathematical modelling and performance study of proton exchange membrane fuel cell

In recent advancements in renewable energy sources, fuel cell technology has become one of the most promising, eco-friendly, and emission-free for clean electricity generation. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, among other fuel cells, have compact design and operation at relatively low temperatures. It is popularly used in various household applications, electrical vehicles, and standby remote power supply applications. PEM Fuel cells can be seamlessly incorporated into diverse power systems due to their scalability and easy integration. This paper presents PEM fuel cell modelling and its performance investigation depending on various parameters under different operating conditions. This work illustrates the effect of temperature and partial pressure of oxygen on different polarisation losses over a steady-state model of PEM fuel cell through mathematical analysis.
