Y-Patch MIMO Antenna Design for Dual-Band Wireless Applications

A compact Y-shaped microstrip antenna has been developed specifically for wireless communication applications operating at frequencies of 4.3 and 5.8 GHz. Measuring 75 × 60 × 1.6 mm, the antenna features a Y-shaped feed on its top surface and a ground plane on the underside, optimized with rectangular stripes to reduce isolation effects. This antenna design caters to various applications including INSAT (at 4.3 GHz), Wi-Fi networks, and Wireless Local Area Network applications (at 5.8 GHz). Its operational bandwidth is flexible enough to accommodate various communication circumstances, ranging from 5.2 to 6.4 GHz. In order to ensure effective signal transmission and reception, the antenna achieves a mutual coupling of less than −20dB and a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) of less than 2. In the 4.3 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency ranges, the S-parameters show return loss values of less than −10 dB. Significantly, the antenna's Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) design keeps its VSWR below 2, which ensures dependable and high-gain performance in wireless communication configurations.
