EMCP: The Development and Verification of a Performance Abstraction for Event-Based Monte Carlo Particle Transport Programs

Monte Carlo particle transport program is a typical high performance computing application. There are two parallel algorithms for MC particle transport program., which are history-based and event-based algorithm. Proxy applications are models of one or more characteristics of large real applications. The event-based proxy application is the basis of parallel optimization of MC particle transport program. Notably., there is no publicly available event-based proxy application. This paper endeavors to address this gap by introducing EMCP., a novel event-based Monte Carlo particle transport proxy app developed based on the open-source project OpenMC. The comparison between EMCP and OpenMC reveals that the difference in the number of collisions is marginal., limited to less than 0.5%. Remarkably., the runtime ofEMCP is a mere 6.7% of that of OpenMC., positioning it as an efficient and user-friendly platform for optimizing event-based algorithms.
