Developing Multi-scale Digital Maps with Vector Tiles: A Cartographic Analysis using ArcGIS Pro

As the demand for large-scale geographic spatial information applications grows, traditional raster tile maps have become inadequate in meeting users' needs for high-resolution rendering and personalized map style customization. In contrast, vector tile maps, with their convenient style customization, short data update cycles, and high rendering efficiency, have emerged as a research hotspot in the field of web map services. To enhance the update efficiency and rendering effects of digital maps, this paper investigates the method of creating multi-scale digital maps for vector tile services using ArcGIS Pro software. Specifically, the study focuses on researching multi-scale grading display techniques for complex features such as roads and POIs. Taking the digital map of Wuhan city as a case study, optimizations were performed to improve digital map quality. The results indicate that the vector tile technology for multi-scale digital maps based on ArcGIS Pro offers shorter tiling time, smaller file sizes, and improved rendering effects. This contributes significantly to enhancing the efficiency of digital map updates and lays a solid foundation for expanding digital map applications.
