Authentication in Blockchain-Based IoT Devices: A Review

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is setting the stage for a future in which many everyday objects will be networked and able to communicate with their surroundings to gather data and perform tasks automatically. Improved productivity, fresh revenue streams, and new business models are all produced by this ecosystem. Although it makes possible a massive data exchange that was formerly impossible, it presents difficulties in delivering user information securely. Because of how IoT systems are designed, protecting connected devices and networks is both extremely important and challenging. Blockchain (BC) technology, mainly invented with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, can bring these features. This paper presents an in-depth investigation of how to tweak blockchain to meet the unique requirements of the IoT to produce Blockchain-based IoT (BIoT) applications. The authors also provide a brief overview of the current IoT authentication mechanisms for safe data transfer and provide an in-depth scrutiny of the previous research.
