A Compact Wideband Planar Antenna For High-Performance IoT Applications

In this work, a patch antenna design for high-performance IoT applications in the sub-6 GHz range is proposed. The antenna is mounted on a thick, 1.6 mm, FR-4 sub-strate that is competitively priced and has a relative permittivity of 4.4. A circular slotted elliptical resonator sits on the upper face of the substrate while the substrate's bottom side has a ground plane with an open-ended slot. A 50 Ω microstrip feedline is used to stimulate the suggested structure. Broadband performance and an increase in its impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna depends on its ground plane having a slot. With this antenna, a wide impedance bandwidth of 3.68 - 5.1 GHz at a central frequency of 4.38 GHz is attainable. The achieved bandwidth lies in FCC approved band for IoT applications. footprint is provided for the proposed antenna. Computer Simulation Technology (CST) and High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) are used as simulating environment to design the recommended antenna that exhibits good return loss of -25.96 dB, gain of 8.1 dBi and a fractional bandwidth of 34% at the central frequency. The suggested antenna is now a strong contender for high-performance IoT applications thanks to all these accomplishments.
