Modeling and Control of Boost Converter: Switched, Averaged, and State-Space Comparison

This paper investigates the switched, averaged and state-space averaging modeling for a dc-dc boost converter. Furthermore, the design of state-space based PI controller to reduce the steady state error, overshoot and settling time of the inductor current and output voltage is presented. All the modelling approaches are verified through computer-aided simulations on an 18 W power at 30 V output dc-dc converter using PSIM and MATLAB/Simulink. The results showcase that the designed PI controller effectively reduces the settling time by 14.25% for output voltage and 70% for inductor current, overshoot by 89.5% for output voltage and 77.91% for inductor current, and steady state error by 83.22% for output voltage and 90% for inductor current.
