Autonomously Reactive Home Security System using Internet of Things

This paper aims to develop a home security system that takes a proactive approach to home security using various IoT technologies. Most smart home security products only provide monitoring and alerting capabilities that notify the homeowner in the case of any suspicious or malicious activity. These devices more often than not, only alert the user and sometimes law enforcement. This paper aims to mitigate the direct risk posed by a violent or motivated attacker to the home owner. It accomplishes the above by incorporating special modules that automatically respond to a violent intruder. This system uses multiple authentication methods such as facial detection, QR code authentication and manual mobile app-based authentication to allow a user to enter the house. It utilizes various sensors to detect motion, capture live camera output and monitor doorway status. Using all of these inputs, it analyses if an intrusion has occurred and raises an alarm to alert the user. Once an alarm has been raised, special modules are activated which impede and discourage an intruder from continuing with their attempt. These modules give the homeowner a chance to flee or defend themselves. It also gives law enforcement or other help extra time to arrive on the scene. This is paired with a companion mobile app to allow monitoring and manual control over the entire system.
