Design and Simulation of Base Station Tightly Coupled Antenna Array Using Plastic Materials as Substrate

This paper proposes a novel plastic antenna for outdoor 5G smart streetlight base station systems and operating in the Sub-6 GHz B42 band (3.4-3.6 GHz). The antenna assembly utilizes a PEI plastic material with added glass fiber as the substrate. In this system, the filter also employs the same material and shares a common backing board with the antenna. Simulations indicate that the antenna achieves a return loss of <-15 dB, isolation of <-20 dB, a maximum gain of 12 dBi within the 3.4-3.6 GHz frequency range. Additionally, the use of plastic materials results in a total weight of less than 2 kg.
