Intelligent Geometric Alignment and Dimensions-Guided Approach for Design Optimization for Efficiency Improvement of WPT Systems

The essential detection of the secondary-side coil in wireless power transfer systems (WPTSs) for electric vehicles (EVs) is to ascertain the vehicle's effective charging zone. We propose design considerations for two prevalent coil types, ring, and spiral circular coils, which are widely used in WPTSs. A comprehensive analytical estimation of inductive characteristics for WPT is provided, followed by design optimization of the WPT system based on coil geometrical parameters and relative placement. To validate the theoretical analysis, COMSOL software is utilized to accurately determine the inductive parameters for our proposed 500W charging coils. Furthermore, we investigate the coupling coefficients of various coreless and cored charging pads with different geometric dimensions and coil alignments, recommending using an I-core to avoid bifurcation phenomena.
