A Numerical Study on EMI Shielding Strategies for LV Battery Pack Components

In this paper, several shielding strategies are proposed and evaluated to prevent the common mode noise from the high voltage (HV) electrical architecture due to inverter switching from interfering with the performance of low voltage (LV) battery electronics and controllers. The battery pack of electric vehicles are generally compact, and the HV-LV components are typically in proximity inside the battery enclosure leading to a higher noise coupling. An approach to create a representative model for the victim PCB is presented. Three different practical shielding strategies are presented and analyzed for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the victim PCB, i.e. (i) Floating shield, (ii) Grounded shield and (iii) Box Shield.
