Silane Functional Stabilizers for Underground Cable Rejuvenation Fluid

Functional stabilizers including antioxidants (AO), hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), ultraviolet (UV) absorbers, and ferrocene (Fc) are often blended into dialkoxysilane-based cable rejuvenation fluids to retard the radical and UV induced degradation of solid-dielectric materials. These first-generation stabilizers are static molecules and lack permanence within the cable by permeating through the insulating polymer at a rate different than the oligomerized dialkoxysilane-based cable rejuvenation fluid. The difference in rate may compromise either the short-term or long-term efficacy of the cable rejuvenation fluid. This paper will expand on an earlier publication of silane-bound antioxidant and introduce dialkoxysilane-bound versions of hindered amine light stabilizer, ultraviolet absorber and ferrocene. The structures, diffusion characteristics, and retention of these second-generation functional stabilizers in polyethylene are discussed in this paper.
