Atmospheric Correction of DC Flashover along Short GPO-3, PPS, PP, and PE Surfaces

Four representative insulation materials (GPO-3, PPS, PP, and PE) are selected to perform dc surface flashover experiments at varying ambient atmospheric conditions with a control group of air gap. Out of the four materials, GPO-3 is widely used for electrical insulating applications, PPS is frequently used as the packaging material for power semiconductor devices, and PP and PE are common insulation materials for wiring and cables. The surface flashover voltage was studied and summarized to fit and achieve atmospheric corrections. The motivation of this work is to discuss the applicability of atmospheric correction for flashover, as was discussed in IEC 60060-1:2010 in the note of clause 4.3.2 and chapter 13 of IEEE Std 4-2013.
