A Solution for Management and Administration of Smart Home Systems

Smart home systems nowadays are the most popular examples of IoT solutions. Since they have diverse components, a centralized point for monitoring the entire system is essential. Typically, these points manifest as client applications, providing the overview of the system. On the other hand, administrator portals are crucial in managing, configuring and overseeing of the system. From user management to device configuration, these applications ensure optimal performance. To establish successful communication between components, the MQTT protocol, widely used in IoT, executes the real-time data exchange. This article explains how our administrator application utilizes MQTT for communication within our system. Moreover, as part of the evaluation, we demonstrate the measurement of MQTT command execution duration, as well as the retrieval of corresponding responses.
