Implementation of the condition monitoring for a large fleet of industrial MV motors

In production plants for industrial gases, compressors driven by MV electric motors are important assets and it is necessary to avoid out of services due to failures that can impact segments of the plants. Therefore, ensuring the reliability of these electrical assets is vital to avoid production losses which could affect the operation of the plants. Nowadays, thanks to digitalization and communication infrastructures, the maintenance strategies are centralized: a large fleet of assets scattered across the continent and characterized by different designs, vintages, utilizations, and history is managed by the same team. All the data relevant to the conditions of each asset are continuously updated and readily available. The implementation described in this paper was designed to empower the assessment of the electrical insulation of the assets using Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring technologies, to standardize the PD monitoring strategy and outputs, and to be ready for further evolution brought by the predicaments of Industry 4.0.
